MTV Video Music Awards

Chevrolet will be showing off a customized fleet of 60 biofuel powered SUVs at this week’s 2006 MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) in New York.

The vehicles, which run on E85 ethanol (an alcohol fuel mixture of 85 percent crop derived ethanol and 15 percent gasoline), will be herding around the ‘talent’ for the prestigious event and providing production support.

The provision of the specially customized vehicles is part of Chevy makers General Motor’s wider Flex Fuel Technology initiative, which launched at this year’s Superbowl under the banner, ‘Live Green, Go Yellow’ - yellow symbolising the corn used in creating ethanol.

The scheme plans to raise awareness about reducing both greenhouse gas emissions and North America’s dependence on fossil fuels.

Chevrolet general manager Ed Peper says: “The 2006 MTV Video Music Awards is a great opportunity for us to showcase our Flex Fuel, E85 ethanol-compatible vehicles, as well as spread the word about Chevrolet’s product portfolio that boasts nine out of 10 cars with over 30 mpg fuel economy.”

The 2006 MTV Video Music Awards will be held this Friday (31st August) at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The show will be broadcast to a potential viewing audience of more than 1.3 billion people around the world.
