And you thought that all musicians care about is sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll. Well not Bloc Party or Lily Allen who have been reducing their carbon footprints at Europe’s first solar powered studio.

East London studio complex, The Premises, recently opened the first fully solar powered recording studio in Europe. And not only that, it’s been fitted with the most up to date technical equipment money can buy, enticing the likes of chart-topper, Allen, and credible indie behemoths, Bloc Party.

“The idea of a solar powered studio has certainly raised a few eyebrows,” says studio director Nathan Hale, “but it works brilliantly. We’ve been doing dry runs with bands like Bloc Party and the audio quality is phenomenal.”

Since opening in June - the complex has been used by everyone from Hard Fi and the Magic Numbers through to Charlotte Church and Anastacia.

“These days more and more music artists are thinking about their carbon footprint so it was only a matter of time before a fully-fledged eco studio became a reality,” said the Premises managing director Julia Clark.

And environmental groups have added their stamp of approval too. “The studio highlights how businesses can use modern technology to reduce their carbon dioxide emissions and save money,” said Tony Juniper, director of Friends of the Earth.
