Outspoken US punks Green Day are linking up with a big environmental pressure group to put a stop to America’s addiction to oil.
In a bid to encourage their fellow Americans to ‘Move Beyond Oil’, the Californian trio, who to date have sold over 85 million records, have joined forces with the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC), which has over 1.2 million members and is regarded as America’s most effective environmental organisation.
Putting their (substantial) money where their mouth is, the Bush baiting band have launched a website in conjunction with the NRDC. The new site, www.greendaynrdc.com, offers fans information on the issue and suggestions on how to live a more green existence.
In a statement on their official fansite, Green Day said: “America’s oil habit has put us in serious trouble. Last year, we sent more than a hundred billion dollars in oil money to undemocratic countries in the Middle East. While oil companies are collecting bigger profits than any companies in history, we’re suffering from global warming and watching more and more of our public lands get destroyed by oil drilling.”
We guess that lets them off the hook for recently releasing a single with Bono.
