Some people will go to incredible lengths to avoid leaving a carbon footprint when they travel - to the extent of never actually leaving their desk.

This Tuesday (28th November) will see a carbon free meeting held by the global justice network OneWorld that will take place on the virtual community ‘Second Life’ that enjoys more than 1.5 million ‘inhabitants’ and a turnover of $18 million per month.

Delegates logging onto Second Life will become avatar citizens of a virtual island called OneClimate Island, the area of the Second Life community dedicated to environmental concerns.

The purpose of the visit to the island will be to discuss the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which concluded in Nairobi, Kenya last week.

Two delegates who attended the recent Kenya conference, Christian Aid’s Andrew Pendleton and Panos’ Rod Harbinson, will be on hand to talk about what they feel about the issues discussed, and ways in which they believe opportunities for change were lost.

Members of the public who log in will be able to ask questions of Pendleton and Harbinson, post comments and watch footage shot during the meetings in Nairobi.
