In an effort to make their Californian HQ even greener, Google have planted an orchard of what they refer to as ’solar trees’ in their sprawling car parks.
Although not looking anything like trees, the structures do offer shade from the sun and shelter from the rain, but more importantly will evenutally make up one third of the compound’s 9,000 solar panels.
According to the creators of the world’s leading search engine, planting solar trees in car parks not only makes use of requently neglected areas of land, but also enables a cost effective and easier method of installation.
Envision Solar, the company developing and building the system for Google, is hoping to enter the residential market next year, through developing trees designed for smaller buildings and homes.

brill idea from google well done arnold scwarrineggers county we love u here in newcastle staffs wish they would do the same here at my employers at trentham gardens blue diamond. this would save us a fortune.
