Liberal Democrats in Wales have laid out their manifesto for the May Assembly elections, and they’re pulling no punches where climate change is concerned.
The party’s leader in the UK Principality Mike German has called on the party to make the ‘green switch’ that party leader Menzies Campbell unveiled at their annual party conference in 2006.
In the pre-manifesto for the May poll, future changes would include ensuring all of Wales’s electricity be provided by renewable sources by 2050, with no reliance on nuclear power.
Mr German, Member of the Welsh Assembly for South Wales East Region said: “This is the first detailed document from any party which sets out serious proposals to make the Assembly’s new powers work for the people of Wales.
“We are committed to stretching those powers to the maximum, to make a difference to our country’s future.”
Writing in the document Trust In Wales, German added: “I say we should aim for renewable energy supplying 100% of Wales’s electricity by 2050. Yes, that’s right, 100% by 2050. It sounds very ambitious, and it is. I want us all to be focused on getting there.”
