Hollywood was looking a damn sight greener this week, with Al Gore’s ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ nominated for an Academy Award and the Sundance Festival making moves to be more environmentally friendly.

The film is nominated in the ‘Best Documentary Feature’ category, with most pundits expecting it to grab the gong with ease, and some even suggesting an Oscar victory could be the ideal launch pad for Al Gore to enter the running for the 2008 US Presidential elections.

Democratic strategist Bob Bekel told FOX News that Gore’s personal profile could only benefit from the nomination. “The more energy behind the global warming issue, the more I got to think that Gore has got to think about getting back into politics,” he said. “If he gets a couple of awards for it, it’s that much more exposure to help him.”

Meanwhile in other cinematic news, this year’s Sundance Film Festival, which started last week and runs until January 28th, will host various green events, with organisers cutting down on the amount of free stuff given to the stars.

Project Greenhouse, for example, will be an exclusive lounge for VIPs that offers “an alternative to the disposable detritus of hospitality giveaways and goody bags.”

The Project features an organic kitchen and information on environmental issues, while Lexus are on hand to provide a hybrid concierge service for green-thinking celebrities.
