Virgin Atlantic is attempting to become the first airline to power a jumbo jet with biofuel, it was announced today. Virgin and its partners at Boeing and General Electric plan to have a biofuel-powered 747 flying by 2008, and are currently testing around eight biofuels to find the most efficient.

A new island has appeared off the east coast of Greenland, proving that Global warming is increasing in earnest. The newly dismembered landmass, which is several miles long, is located halfway up the country’s remote east coast, around 400 miles north of the Arctic Circle.

US singer and green activist Sheryl Crow has called for a limit on toilet paper to help the environment. Speaking on her website, Crow said All I Wanna Do is use “one square per restroom visit, except, of course, on those pesky occasions where two to three could be required”.

Sainsbury’s is introducing a fleet of electric-powered trucks in a bid to cut down its CO2 emissions. The supermarket giant is planning to replace 20% of its home delivery vehicles by 2008, and its entire fleet by 2010.

After the second warmest winter on record, and temperatures in some parts of the UK soaring to 10 degrees above the seasonal average, a conservation charity is claiming that climate change is dramatically affecting the seasons.
