His Royal Likeness

Prince Charles... or is it?
An eco-friendly waxwork of Prince Charles has been unveiled at London’s Madame Tussaud’s that reflects the heir to the throne’s green leanings.

Known for waxing lyrical on environmental matters, the Prince has gone to great lengths to ensure his likeness – part of a Royal exhibition at the world famous wax museum – is green…figuratively speaking, of course.

In a four-month project, Royally-appointed waxworkers recycled HRH’s 1989 figure before adding organic beeswax and pigments so that the 2007 version was both accurate and ecologically sound. To cut down on unnecessary energy, the model was made purely by hand and during daylight hours – and as if that wasn’t enough, workers even cycled to planning meetings.

Any remaining energy used during the process will be offset through tree-planting on the Prince’s land in Cornwall.

“The Prince of Wales is a major champion of green issues, and we always aim to be up to date with how we portray the figures,” said Ben Lovett, a spokesman for Madame Tussaud’s.

The Prince’s figure cost around £150,000 to make, which, although similar to other waxworks in the museum, is a bargain considering how much wax was required for the Royal ears.
