Global Cool - The Movie
Speculation has been rife as to what UK Prime Minister Tony Blair is going to do when he steps down from office later this month. But not many people will have predicted his move into acting in a Bollywood blockbuster.

That’s right, in between the many legs of his current global farewell tour, the PM took time to film a cameo role in the climate change baiting short film, Global Cool, which is set to be premiered as part of the IIFA Awards.

Following in the footsteps of fellow statesman Al Gore, the outgoing Labour leader has embraced the big screen to express his concerns about global warming. But our Tony has gone one further by joining forces with some of the biggest stars in Bollywood.

“I’ve been preparing for this role for the last 10 years,” said Mr Blair. “It was great to be part of Global Cool. But remember, I was only one of a billion people saving the planet in this movie – and they are all stars.”

In addition to appearing alongside Hollywood sirens Sienna Miller (Factory Girl, Layer Cake, Alfie) and Heather Graham (The Guru, Austin Powers), Tony took direction from acclaimed Golden Globe nominee Shekhar Kapur, and saddled up for the making of the spoof movie trailer with the daddy of all Indian Cinema, one Mr Amitabh Bachchan.

“I was sceptical to say the least, but when he came and auditioned for us I was amazed,” commented Bollywood superstar Mr Bachchan. Unfortunately, at time of going to press, we were unable to confirm whether or not this statement was made with a photogenic tongue in a cinematic cheek, having been temporarily dazzled by the screen legend’s magnificent beard.

Either way Mr Blair will be exposed across the entire Indian subcontinent and its global Diaspora on Saturday night, when the short film will be shown in its entirety as part of the IIFA Film Awards.

And what’s more, in addition to being seen by a global television audience of over 500 million viewers, the film is set to be shown as a trailer throughout India’s countless cinema screens as well as being featured as a preview on thousands of DVD releases.

Maybe Al Gore won’t be the only ex-politician with an Academy Award on his mantelpiece this time next year…
