Speculation has been rife as to what UK Prime Minister Tony Blair is going to do when he steps down from office later this month. But not many people will have predicted his move into acting in a Bollywood blockbuster.
That’s right, in between the many legs of his current global farewell tour, the PM took time to film a cameo role in the climate change baiting short film, Global Cool, which is set to be premiered as part of the IIFA Awards.
Following in the footsteps of fellow statesman Al Gore, the outgoing Labour leader has embraced the big screen to express his concerns about global warming. But our Tony has gone one further by joining forces with some of the biggest stars in Bollywood.
“I’ve been preparing for this role for the last 10 years,” said Mr Blair. “It was great to be part of Global Cool. But remember, I was only one of a billion people saving the planet in this movie – and they are all stars.”
In addition to appearing alongside Hollywood sirens Sienna Miller (Factory Girl, Layer Cake, Alfie) and Heather Graham (The Guru, Austin Powers), Tony took direction from acclaimed Golden Globe nominee Shekhar Kapur, and saddled up for the making of the spoof movie trailer with the daddy of all Indian Cinema, one Mr Amitabh Bachchan.
“I was sceptical to say the least, but when he came and auditioned for us I was amazed,” commented Bollywood superstar Mr Bachchan. Unfortunately, at time of going to press, we were unable to confirm whether or not this statement was made with a photogenic tongue in a cinematic cheek, having been temporarily dazzled by the screen legend’s magnificent beard.
Either way Mr Blair will be exposed across the entire Indian subcontinent and its global Diaspora on Saturday night, when the short film will be shown in its entirety as part of the IIFA Film Awards.
And what’s more, in addition to being seen by a global television audience of over 500 million viewers, the film is set to be shown as a trailer throughout India’s countless cinema screens as well as being featured as a preview on thousands of DVD releases.
Maybe Al Gore won’t be the only ex-politician with an Academy Award on his mantelpiece this time next year…

At IIFA, I saw filmstars bragging about Global Cool. I want to know how much they themselves are contributing.
- Stop all Awards ceremonies
- Stop using carvan vans
- Stop releasing too many useless films..If they do this, there will be a direct contribution to Global Cool.
If this is with a serious cause rather than publicity jargon, I want a answer from him

Comment by Prabhat — June 19, 2007 @ 2:07 pm
I hope this well be a good movie. Though, I don’t believe we should wasting our time with programs against global warming. Global warming is course of nature. Human being produce far less than a fraction Co2 emission than the amount released by Volcanic eruption or even volcanic action. There is a higher possibility that we may enter another ice age.

people here are not content, they want more and more luxury, where the planet has to pay the cost for our luxuries. Like usuing A/Cs, flight when you can you a bus, using vehicle when you can walk, these are few examples, there are lot more like these which contribute more to green gases. People please think…
Comment by Stanley — July 21, 2007 @ 6:20 am
Ah Ah Ah . First People send troops in different regions to do bombing to find mass destruction weapons and make this planet intensely hot than they tell others to safe this planet……….although its a good cause but we should better think of present lots of people are deing in front of media everyday and no one safes them…everyone just tries to make film of that person dieng just to get promotion……i would say globalcool team its a good cause but first we have to do something else so dont try to get to the top of building without stairs ….. first make satirs and then go step by step……….dont you people see people dieing bcoz of poverty………onething more ( where there is polition there is politics )………..WE GOT DO SOMETHING ELSE FIRST.
Comment by Haseeb Ur Rehman — July 22, 2007 @ 5:36 pm
