Mini fridges are up to four times less energy efficient that standard fridges - well, that’s if the Liberal Democrats are to be believed.
According to Chris Huhne, the party’s environment spokesperson, the scaled down appliances, treasured by armchair sports fans across the nation, are not currently labelled to highlight their poor energy rating and high running costs.
Mr Huhne called for the coolers to be included in an EU scheme that urges manufactures to label electrical goods with an efficiency rating. He also stated that such devices can cost up to a chilling £60 per year to run, which is more than some of the energy hungry units cost to buy.
“Anyone buying a mini fridge just so they don’t have to get off the sofa needs to know the environmental damage they cause,” said the aggrieved politician.
And if that’s not a rallying call to drive the electorate to sweep the Lib Dems into power, we don’t know what is.
