Editorial: Sienna Takes Over the BBC

Global Cool ambassador Sienna Miller fielded some tough questions on behalf of the campaign yesterday, not least when it came to her own jet-setting lifestyle. Our response? Bring it on!

Talking candidly on BBC TV and Radio about our ten-year campaign, the actress did not profess to know all the answers to the problem of global warming.

And when asked about her lifestyle, Sienna explained that she does fly and that, as an actress very much en vogue in Hollywood, this is unavoidable.

At Global Cool, we do not ask the impossible of those who join us. We merely ask that they make small, positive changes, to give our generation and those that follow a chance.

Anyone and everyone who cares about this planet and those who live on it is welcome, as Sienna said yesterday, ‘to be in our gang’.

And we are profoundly grateful to Sienna Miller – as well as to all of those who have joined our campaign, celebrity or otherwise – for making positive changes to their lifestyles to reduce their personal CO2 emissions.

As a celebrity-backed campaign in the climate change space, we invite and expect public scrutiny – as well as a degree of cynicism in the media.

And we encourage constructive criticism of governments, companies and, to a certain extent, individuals advocating a change to our lifestyle to meet the requirements of the age. Indeed, a healthy scepticism not only keeps the topic alive and kicking in the public sphere; it also holds those in positions of influence to account.

Accordingly, we at Global Cool whole-heartedly welcome the scepticism and even cynicism that comes as part of the deal.

We will not be deterred from our mission by tough questions. And the harder they come, the harder we will work to win you over.
