This summer we’ll once again be helping you find the easiest ways to Do It In Public on the festival circuit, ditching the car and taking public transport instead for the ultimate festival experience. We kick off this week with the Isle of Wight Festival…
The festival
We already love the Isle of Wight for being green, and the annual festival also won a Greener Festival Award for its eco-friendly credentials last year. Global Cool are very excited about watching as the entire island transforms into a party zone for four days, and this year there are some fantastic acts, from Band of Horses to the reformed Pulp.
Getting there
South West Trains operate services to Portsmouth Harbour, where you will be metres away from the Wightlink catamaran service, and to Southampton Central, where a free bus will take you the short journey to Red Funnel’s Red Jet and passenger service. Virgin Cross-Country services from the Midlands also call at Southampton Central. For more information visit the Isle of Wight festival website.
Travel-light tip
Nobody wants to lug masses of bags en route to a festival. And with all the great amenities in the Isle of Wight area there really is no need to give yourself back ache or waste money on expensive parking. Newport is the Island’s main town and retail centre. Close to the bus station are Somerfield, Morrisons and Marks and Spencer. There are also plenty of cafes and pubs in town. Get there on the Newport shuttle bus, or it is a 15-30 minute walk, depending which part of the festival site you are starting from.
