School Of Cool #107: How Ethan Hawke plans to Purge the planet

on in Entertainment

Because being cool shouldn’t cost the Earth…

Ethan HawkeSo, who is he?
Ethan Hawke made his name in films such as Gattaca and Training Day (for which he received a Screen Actors Guild and an Academy Award nomination). It’s argued that his breakthrough performance was as Todd Anderson in Dead Poets Society.

Impressive. What else do I need to know?
Did you also know he used to be married to Hollywood siren Uma Thurman? They met on the set of Gattaca and have a daughter and a son. Let’s hope there was no animosity in the divorce… we’ve all seen what Thurman can do with a sword and a vengeance.

So, he’s a cool guy, but why is he a Global Cool guy?
We’re so excited to see Hawke’s new movie The Purge (set in a futuristic America where the government sanctions a 12-hour period once a year in which all criminal activity is legal).

Especially since it’s revealed that Hawke secretly dreams of being an eco terrorist. During the movie promotion Hawke had a chat with Grantland and divulged that if he could embark on a night of crime his cause would be the planet (woohoo!) Hawke said…

“If I was in a situation where I could get away with anything terrible that I wanted to get away with? Well, I have a secret fantasy of being an environmental terrorist — like when I see these oil spills and all these dead fish and the chopping down of forests. I’d love to slip just a little dynamite in somewhere. That would be where my inner demon lurks.”

Although we don’t want to see him actually become an eco terrorist we do hope he carries on his fight for the planet!

For now here’s the trailer for The Purge so you can get as excited as us…
