School Of Cool profiles our favourite celeb heroes. From rock stars to royalty we reveal all the eco-secrets that make them top of the class. This week it’s Paul McCartney…
So, who is he?
We seriously hope you’re asking that question ironically. You don’t know who Paul McCartney is? Next you’ll be telling us you don’t know who The Beatles are and that you’ve never heard of a yellow submarine.
Impressive. What else do I need to know?
He recently got married to the beautiful Nancy Shevall, on what would have been John Lennon’s 71st birthday. With only 30 guests, (including Ringo Starr), it was a rather small gathering. But we guess that, in the end, all you need is love.
So, he’s a cool guy, but why is he a Global Cool guy?
Heather Mills’ ex-husband is a dedicated vegetarian, so obviously served his guests, including Kate Moss and Twiggy, the best of veggie food. The bride and groom even chose to have a vegan cake at his wedding made of apples. He’s on the short list to win the award for the Best Green Celebrity at the International Green Awards too!
Do you think he’s a cool guy? Tell us your thoughts in the comments box below or on Twitter @global_cool…

Paul is cool because he was vegetarian and advocating animal rights with his wife Linda before it was cool to support either of those things. Paul is cool because he’s not afraid to be his goofy self. He does exactly what he wants to do musically — sometimes it’s worked, sometimes it hasn’t. But that doesn’t stop him from trying. Paul is cool because he’s had to deal with a tremendous amount of adversity in life (lost his mother to cancer at 14, lost his band and his closest friend’s partnership at 28, lost his songwriter partner to a killer at 38, lost his wife to cancer at 56, lost his second bandmate to cancer at 60, lost his head and married a lunatic at 60) and yet he still manages to seek out happiness in his own life. Paul is cool because he’s raised 5 great kids.
That about covers it.
