Turning your TV completely off rather than leaving it on standby might be a pain in the arse (given that you have to actually get up out of your chair to do it), but it will save you loads of cash and help preserve your TV for longer. As a gentle reminder not to leave your TV on stand by here’s TV turn-off of the week: A TV lowlight that proves that sometimes the only way is not Essex… it’s the OFF button…
It’s been around for a while, and has annoyed us from the get-go, but it doesn’t look like the Go Compare advert is going anywhere. Seeing as we’re big advocates of Doing It In Public we were never going to be big fans of a car insurance ad anyway. But now the creators seem to have decided that the opera-singing man with the ridiculous moustache is here to stay, as we see him embarking on a series of new ads, including trips to Ancient Egypt and back in time for the invention of the wheel.
It seems there’s no escape from the grating singing, and we’ve actually found ourselves muting the TV or changing the channel just to avoid it. In fact, the Go Compare advert was voted the most annoying advert for 2009, 2010 and 2011 and was only narrowly usurped by the We Buy Any Car advert this year. It would still top our ‘Most Annoying’ list and, just in case somehow you’ve been lucky enough not to see it, here it is again…
(Warning: The following video is REALLY annoying. Do not watch if you value your sanity)
Here comes the science bit…
Global Cool wants you to lead a green and happy life. This article can help you to be green by:
1. Remembering to turn your TV off properly and not just leave it on stand by, to save you money and energy.
2. Or why not splash out on an energy saving TV, like this one from LG.
3. Always hop on public transport rather than driving – it’s greener and will save you heaps without that expensive car insurance too.
