Because being awesome doesn’t have to cost the Earth…
Roll up! Roll up! It’s time to check out just what’s going down in the eco world…
Japanese hover shoes
In Japan scientists have created a very cool (and green) way to get around – hover shoes! The technology was inspired by the Japanse maglev system used to power trains on the Tobo Kyuryo Line in Aichi and has now been adapted to shoes. The magneto kinetic resistance propulsion uses a thin magnetic strip in the pavement to push against a tiny magnets embedded in the shoes resulting in the wearer actually floating.
Mr Shigatsu Baka from the Fuuru Institute said:
“We created a nano technology which means we can spray a fine magnetic polymer coating onto a thin strip only 1cm across that can be laid under thin paving slabs. The shoes have a tiny coating of the same polymer and we then just apply a voltage of opposing polarity to the two and the person can hover or in reality walk with no resistance.”
We haven’t seen something this cool since we heard about magic walls and spray on solar panels! Very cool.

Green is the new black
Gucci has teamed up with Livia Firth for their latest eco creation – a gorgeous burgandy handbag (pictured right). The bag – which is based on the classic Gucci Jackie – is 100% traceable and made from completely eco-friendly materials. Firth said: “It’s becoming increasingly important for consumers to understand how things are made. Luxury brands are very keen to stress their craftsmanship, but after that, there’s a brick wall. Things get very opaque. This is showing that it doesn’t have to be.”
Frida Giannini, Gucci’s creative director, didn’t need convincing though as being green is obviously key for her: “I really believe that today, more than ever before, customers want to be associated with brands that are thoughtful and responsible. At Gucci we’d like not just to be synonymous with ‘Made in Italy’, but also ‘Made with Integrity’.”
It amazing to see sustainability being taken so seriously in high fashion and we can’t wait to get our mits on one!
How to be as pretty as Leona Lewis
Leona Lewis is more than just a pretty girl with an awesome voice. The X Factor winner has been an animal activist and a vegetarian for ages. And now the pretty brunette has launched a new Limited Edition line with The Body Shop. The range called Cruelty Free Beauty includes makeup such as lip gloss and a shimmer palette and also a perfume too. All of the products are kind to the planet and to animals alike. Great work Leona – take a bow!
And finally, we’d like to give a big thumbs up to Global Cool’s youngest new advocate… One of our pals made a gorgeous Thomas the Tank Engine dress for her little girl to show that trains are definitely cooler than cars…
Here comes the science bit…
