This week’s entrant to the School of Cool is James Cameron…
So who is he?
One of the most famous writers and directors in Hollywood, who first gained notoriety for The Terminator back in 1984, and is responsible for the massive films, Titanic and Avatar.
Impressive. What else do I need to know?
He is also an expert on underwater filming and remote submersibles, diving himself to film scenes of the Titanic which were later used in the film. His expertise even gained him an honorary degree as Doctor of the University of Southampton in 2004.
So he’s a cool guy, but why’s he a Global Cool guy?
The underlying message of Avatar is that we need to more to look after our world. And Cameron certainly practices what he preaches. On 22 April this year, he launched his scheme to plant 1,000,000 trees to offset the energy used while making Avatar. Trees will be planted in 15 countries and only trees native to the region will be planted.
James has also recently voiced his concern over the recent BP oil spill, getting together a group of 23 experts and offering their knowledge on how to stop the oil spill. He also recently co-hosted the Eco Warrior Training competition alongside Sigourney Weaver in the US where high school students had to demonstrate how they could apply environmental lessons they had learnt from Avatar to their life.
If you want to follow in James Cameron’s footsteps why not consider a Traincation or Do It In Public!
Here’s some of his finest work…

James cameron is the current best director. I really like his movies. Avatar is one of his best.
