Our latest Global Cool hero is Jarvis Cocker…
Who’s this Jarvis then?
To people of a certain age, Jarvis and his former band Pulp, will always have a special place in our hearts. Pulp were right up there with Blur and Oasis in the Britpop scene of the ‘90s, with hits like Disco 2000 and Common People.
The 90s were a long time ago though, right?
Well, yes, but there’s still good reason for Global Cool to be big Jarvis fans.
Such as?
Not only does he present the Sunday afternoon show on ace radio station BBC 6Music (winning the Sony DAB Rising Star Award 2010 for his first foray into DJing), he was also in cult director Wes Anderson’s awesome animated movie The Fantastic Mr Fox as Petey, alongside Hollywood A-Listers George Clooney, Meryl Streep and Bill Murray.
Didn’t I see him on a train recently?
Indeed you might have done, and that’s the main reason for Jarvis featuring here. In addition to keeping the office amused with cool music and movies, Jarvis has even more entries in our good books for being the Ambassador for Eurostar’s Culture Connect.
What exactly is that?
Culture Connect is Eurostar’s way of bringing together lots of museums and galleries in London, Paris and Brussels. Jarvis explains: “As Ambassador for Culture Connect I’m encouraging everyone to get on a train and explore the culture of another country”. All of which makes a lot of sense as Cocker’s a regular Eurostar user since moving to Paris a few years back.
All round top bloke then…
Absolutely. You can hear Jarvis’ latest 6Music show here, and if you fancy taking your Traincation around Europe we’ve got plenty of inspiration here.
