If the rumours are true, Cheryl Cole is about to pack her bags and move to LA.
Following in the footsteps of Robbie Williams and her Girls Aloud bandmate Nadine Coyle, Cheryl looks set to spend a year in the states to launch her career.
But while the weather might be a little bit better over there, in the words of Joe Strummer, we’re so bored of the USA here at Global Cool.
Here are five reasons life in the UK is better than the US of A…
1. The car is king in the US, which is fine if you don’t mind sitting in traffic jams and breathing in smog (not so good for the skin by the way, Cheryl). Personally, we prefer to get about by public transport, an area where the US lags a long way behind the UK, especially in big cities. The car loving culture also means that taking a walk or riding your bike is several times more dangerous than in Europe.
2. For those who ditch the car, trying to get from one city to the next is a bit of a nightmare in the States, as most cities only run one or two trains a day, which explains why 10% of all journeys in the US are by air.
3. Las Vegas, one of the US’s most popular cities, doesn’t even have a railway station. Here in the UK, it’s much easier to travel by train, and even turn the adventure into a Traincation.
4. The use of air conditioners accounts for 5% of all household energy in the US, something that we don’t even need in the UK. In fact it’s even possible to save energy, even when the sun does a disappearing act, by just putting on a jumper, rather than whacking up the heating.
5. Recycling isn’t too high on the agenda for Americans, and in some states, recycling facilities aren’t provided at all. If Cheryl was to stay in the UK, she’d be able to recycle with ease, as councils have to provide facilities to recycle both paper and glass.
So, to quote The Clash for a second time, should you stay or should you go, Cheryl? We think you know the answer…
