Bestival marked the last major music festival in the UK of 2011, but that doesn’t mean festival season has to be over for you. Head on over to Germany with Ed Sheeran, Friendly Fires and Ben Howard on Traincation to Hamburg…
What’s on?
From 22-24 September, Hamburg will come alive for The Reeperbahn Festival. It’s one of Germany‘s biggest festivals, with over 200 music and art events in 40 very special locations. Bars and clubs along Hamburg’s most famous nightlife strip, Reeperbahn, will showcase the latest up-and-coming live international bands, including UK acts Ed Sheeran, Friendly Fires (pictured) and Ben Howard. A festival wristband gives you access to all the venues as well as free transport so you can Do It In Public, even on vacation.
Getting there
Take the Eurostar to Paris Gare du Nord and have a wander through the Parisian streets to Gare de l’Est. Next the City Night Line sleeper train Andromeda will take you all the way to Hamburg, leaving Paris at 20:20 each evening and arriving in Hamburg Hauptbahnhof at 08:35 the following morning. This sleeper train has one, two and three bed sleeper cars with a shower and toilet in deluxe. All the rooms also have powerpoints for charging your phone or watching a late night movie on your laptop.
Traincation tip
Download the Reeperbahn Festival App before you get there to keep on top of the festival program. It lets you know exactly what’s going on and where. You can create a list of personal favorites and find your way to the next event via Google Maps. Facebook and Twitter are integrated, so you can share where you are and make everyone at home jealous. Oh, and it’s free too!
Bang for your buck
Some of the cheapest single fares are available if you book online at www.bahn.de. You can even print out your own ticket too.

Hi there! Just a quick correction for you. I recently went to Hamburg from London on the train, and the €49 fare (which you must print out) that you mention is for daytime trains via Brussels and Cologne, not night trains via Paris. Seat61.com has a comprehensive explaination of the routing and price differences between these two options.
