TV TURN-OFF OF THE WEEK: Cheryl Cole dresses as a maid to promote Downton Abbey

Turning your TV completely off rather than leaving it on standby might be a pain in the arse (given that you have to actually get up out of your chair to do it), but it will save you loads of cash and help preserve your TV for longer. As a gentle reminder not to leave your TV on stand by we bring you TV turn-off of the week: A TV lowlight that proves that sometimes the only way is not Essex… it’s the OFF button…

Russell Brand, Nicole Kidman, Bruce Willis, Cheryl Cole and Boris Johnson

We know what you’re thinking – what on earth are Russell Brand, Nicole Kidman, Bruce Willis, Boris Johnson and Cheryl Cole doing hanging out together dressed in old-fashioned clothes? They’re all in fact wax models that went on display at Madame Tussauds in London to mark the return of Downton Abbey. But they couldn’t distract us from the fact that the directors had made one too many slip ups in filming the show…

We love a good period drama in the Global Cool office, and enjoy nothing more than settling down and immersing ourselves in another era. We were quietly getting lost in the intricate storylines of post-war Britain on Downton Abbey, when we saw double yellow lines on the roads! The show has attracted quite a bit of criticism for its historical inaccuracies, and it can be hard to stay convinced by the plot line when we see a modern conservatory in the background or even a TV aerial!

Will you be watching or do you think it’s just trash TV? Tell us what you think in the comments box below or on Twitter @global_cool
