Beauty secrets: How to defy the wicked witch of winter and have glowing skin

Over the summer our skin was glowing with sun-kissed pride and, er, fake tan. But we’ve got some bad news folks – summer’s over, and if you’re still sitting at home reading this in your birthday suit (or similar states of undress) trying to show off your now less-than-bronzed body, you probably look like a bit of a plonker.

You’re also doing your skin more harm than good. Research has shown that turning down your heating stops your skin from drying out – keeping you looking beautiful and glowing all winter long, and making sure your body is in tip top condition for when it’s time to get out the hot pants and bikini top back out again.

So as the wicked witch of winter makes her visit, it’s time to grab a jumper and wrap up nice and warm – your skin will love you for it. Here are some other great tips and green products to make you feel and look great this winter…

Face and body
Central heating dries out the air’s humidity, stripping the skin of much -needed moisture and leaving it unprepared for the cold outdoors, which can provoke skin sensitivity from harsh temperature contrasts. Turn your central heating down a degree or two, and counteract the drying effects of your home or office central heating by placing a bowl of water by the radiator to re-saturate the air. Top it off by nourishing your skin with organic body moisturiser.

Lips
Cracked lips are a result of harsh winter winds, and ironically the wetter they are the more sore they become (lip lickers be warned!) Avoid lip creams that are too water-based, and make Eco Lips a handbag staple to keep your pout oily!

Hands
Although we can cover up our bodies both indoors and outdoors during the chilly season, our useful hands are far too… handy, to be hidden under gloves for long. So take care of your digits with natural hand cream.

Hair
Your hair is one of the many ways you can express yourself, and during the winter we can decorate our heads with an array of weird and wonderful hats. But hair will inevitably become dry and static from the cold weather and central heating, so leave your conditioner on for longer and try to avoid the hot blows of the hair dryer by letting your locks dry naturally.
