We have admired From Somewhere’s upcycled couture from couture creations for some time, but were really impressed with the collaboration between the design duo Orsola de Castro & Filippo Ricci and Speedo that’s currently being exhibited at London Fashion Week.
Speedo approached the designers after their iconic RZR Racer suit no longer qualified as an official suit for competition at the Olympics due to rule changes, so they were left with lots of suits and no homes for them. Rather than simply dump the suits, they wanted to look for a way to re-use them that was exciting and unique and this is the beautiful result.
The full ‘From Somewhere with Speedo’ collection will be revealed early 2011 and a percentage of sales from the collection will go to charity.
