Recycled paper shabby star

By Lauren Moore

The final instalment of our inspiring series on recycled fashion…

My Paper Ballet is the creation of artist Kelly Price-Colston, who hails from Arkansas, USA.

Wanting to create something unique yet affordable, Kelly started cutting flowers out of magazines and created a huge canvas. Now she uses recycled materials to show others that there can be new ways to see something old.

The shabby star was created by Kelly letting her fingers do the talking and creating, rather than following a pattern, believing that when you’re making something, you should just do what comes naturally and if it doesn’t work, just start again.

Kelly’s top tip is: “Think differently about an old object, ask yourself can I paint this? Can I make something out of this? So many times paint can be added and you’ve created a new piece you will love even more than the original”
