Looking fabulous at the Palace

on in Fashion

Clothes and shoes have always held a special place in my heart. When I was a child, I would sleep surrounded by my gorgeous clothes and my shoes. Even, my glorious shoes.

My love of clothes has continued since those early days and I have attained a somewhat dangerous addiction to couture. And along the way, there have been some true disasters. No details, suffice to say that a number of sartorial nightmares have periodically languished on the closet floor.

Luckily, a number of years ago (again, no details!) I discovered heaven in the form of ‘Sign of the Times’ among Chelsea’s secret enclaves . This place is a treasure trove of second hand designer clothes at prices that make the aforementioned addiction a lot easier to handle. They know their clients so well that they often spot a particular piece and know exactly who will look good in it.

That is how I ended up with a beautiful vintage Lanvin dress in red organza silk, a stunning Alberta Ferretti number and a pair of sparkly Prada heels which I could afford. And, the best bit is that I take them back and get something new once that particular party is over.

This is the perfect way of usefully recycling gorgeous, classic pieces that might otherwise have gone to waste, and guess what, I wore a second hand outfit to Buckingham Palace! It just shows you what can be done with a bit of thought and luck.

It might seem like a fairly small thing to do as far as helping the environment is concerned, but clothes recycling is just one small way among millions that go toward cooling the planet. Just be open minded and prepared for the unexpected.

And its fun!
