Swishing? A swish? A swisher? The swisherati? The swishset?! Just what am I on about?! Well, it’s a little thing that could have a big impact, it’s fun and productive and could possibly get you a new wardrobe as well as help the environment.
It’s called swishing, and it rocks!
Okay, if you’re in the know, then skip to the end of this post. If you’ve never heard of it before, bear with me, I’ll explain all. Swishing happens when a group of people get together with clothes they’ve either never worn or lost interest in. You know, that pair of jeans that seemed to fit well in the store’s mirror, but at home it’s a different story. The little black dress whose potential spectator cancelled at the last minute. These people get together with their unwanted clothes with the aim of giving it a new home, and also hoping to fill their new closet space with a few pieces that someone else wants to pass on.
It’s a swap of sorts, but it’s better, because it’s a swish. Everyone hangs their unwanted items up and once everything is laid out, everyone has the chance to browse what’s there before making a dash for the items they want! A few drinks, a few laughs, maybe even a little wobbling bottom lip if someone doesn’t get the item they REALLY wanted, but it’s all in the name of fun, it’s cheap, and most importantly, it’s environmentally friendly!
In the UK alone over a million tonnes of clothing ends up in landfill each year. That’s a lot of wasted clothes, and a lot of items that probably never even saw the light of day, and you know, a lot of things that could have been swished.
So, what are we doing with swishing? Well, we’re hosting our own swishing party during London Fashion Week, where loads of items will be up for grabs, and you’ve got a chance of coming along. Why don’t you enter our Recycle Runway competition, upload an image of you in an item you might swish and get some votes for your chance to win.
We’ve also got our dead simple guide to running your own swishing event available on our other swishing page.
Let us know if you’ve run a swishing event yourself, or are thinking about doing one in the future. We’d love to know how it goes. And, keep an eye out for more information on our event coming in the near future!

I have tried to access your swishing page, to see about organising an event, but got an error page. If you could get the information & e-mail it to me I would be very appreciative. I would also like to do this for a charity, would this affect the organisation of the event?
