Because great baking doesn’t have to cost the Earth…
By Rose Munday
Not just an intelligent law student, John Whaite has won the third series of everyone’s favourite TV show, The Great British Bake Off.
Being glued to our screens for the last ten weeks has got us thinking about baking and whether there are green ways to be like John. Turns out there are, so aprons at the ready!
There are tons of eco-friendly shops and websites out there selling everything from organic flour to fair trade baking cups. We’ve picked a few of our favourite green cake decorations to share with you…
We can’t get enough of these Lemon and Orange Jelly Slices from Steenbergs, a family-run organic and fair trade company. Perfect to jazz up a lemon drizzle cake (or scoff straight from the tub).
We also love Fair Trade Chocolate Buttons from Ethical Superstore which you can use to decorate cakes or buns of any kind – or try melting them to make a chocolate spread topping.
And if you want to really indulge, this Chocolate Flavour Writing Fudge, also from Steenbergs, is the dream of anyone with a sweet tooth. Get messy and have fun icing names and greetings onto your baked goodies. And for £2.99 you can’t really go wrong.
So, with these guilt-free goodies a mouse click away, there’s really no excuse not to get baking. Grab some Organic Flour and our pick of decorations and whip up a treat – don’t forget to send us pics of your creations on Facebook!
Here comes the science bit…
GC articles show you one of four ways (the one in bold) to live greener…
/ Be a winner (not a binner) /
/ Turn up the style (not the heat) /
/ Love the trend (not the spend) /
/ Do it in public (not the car/plane) /
