This offer has now finished, but we’d still love to hear your favourite books so do tell us in the comments below…
Welcome to Books In Public, our online book group as part of Do It In Public.
We want to get as many book recommendations as possible over the next few weeks as we celebrate the joys of reading books on buses and trains.
We’ve teamed up with our friends over at the Book Depository to offer you a 5% discount on all the books they sell. All you need to do is leave a comment below telling us your favourite book to read on public transport and why you love it so much, and we’ll email you the details on how to get your discount.
Alternatively, follow us on Twitter, send out a tweet with your book recommendation (including the hash tag #booksinpublic) and we’ll direct message you with the details.
We’ll also be handing out free sample copies of books at bus and train stations around the UK, starting this Thursday (July 15th). To find out when and where we’ll be, sign up to the Global Cool newsletter here.

Im reading Catch 22. my sister bought it and didn’t like it so i wasn’t hopeful but now i have to say it’s absolutlely hilarious
My favourite book is The Witness by James Jauncey. Its a very good story about a young man trying to cope with an mentally disabled child while on the run from soldiers because he is the only witness to a massacre they performed.
Trying not very successfully to get through the latest Jason Bourne book. Must persevere – any book that starts with a Russian prison fight then a torture sequence has probably got some other delights up its sleeve.
I want to know what the hell Elvis at the top of this page is reading??!? Bet it’s a burger recipe book hahahaha
I like reading my Rough Guide to Scotland by lonely planet. Half the fun of a holiday is in the planning, and reading about the history etc.

When you are in bad mood and want to cheer up,I would recommend Chris Steward and his Almond Blossom Appreciation society. It’s a story about his family moving to Spain and their life there.
And another of my favourites, it’s Red Dog by Louis de Bernieres.
Small book but unforgetable.
The Downside Ghosts series by Stacia Kane – Unholy Ghosts #1, Unholy Magic #2 and City of Ghosts #3 is out this August. Absolutely fab series I can’t recommend them enough!

Anything by nick hornby, always hilarious and heartwarming
The Alchemist. Short but good.
I love Douglas Coupland – I’m re-reading his novel Generation A. A truly revolutionary author!
I love A Million Little Pieces by James Frey. It’s hard hitting and gritty but ultimately uplifting. Love it. Also his other books are great too.

The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak is one of the best books I’ve read. It’s set in Nazi Germany and narrated by Death, but despite that its incredibly moving and uplifting. Probably best not to read the end of the book on public transport though as you WILL cry
Persepolise was a really interesting read especially as it read like a comic book, but I must say I haven’t enjoyed a book more than Wild Swans I have learnt more from that book than any other
The book I love most for travellers headed to Africa is “Mary Anita and the Second LIberation ni Kenya” available thru Amazon
A book I’ve recently discovered and absolutely love is “Read Me – I Am Magical” by Alinka Rutkowska and it absolutely changed my life! It reveals 12 secrets to love, happiness and personal power with incredible wit and sense of humor. It’s incredible how you can give so much relevant information and powerful exercises in 1 book. Oh and there’s something in it that just makes you feel amazing when you read it. I highly recommend!
We have to find keep searching for possibilities in order to help save our earth. Really like reading about this.
One of the best books I’ve read is a book which I read recently. The book was ‘The Murder Game’, by Beverly Barton. The book is tense throughout with a balance between romance, mystery and of course as the title suggests, horror. It is a sequel to the first book in the trilogy ‘The Killing Game’, and indeed it is a very worthy follow-up. Whenever I see the name Beverly Barton on a book again, I’ll buy it, knowing that it is inevitable that it will be absolutely exceptional. I am mostly drawn to autobiographies, knowing that I cannot bare a whole page written in a book, which turns out to be describing a twig, which I believe occurs in most Fiction books. However this book was straight to the point in every aspect, only describing in long chunks when desperately needed. This is a book for all mature ages (sexual scenes) and I hope that you enjoy reading it in the near future.
Books let us into their souls and lay open to us the secrets of our own. ~William Hazlitt
My favourite book is Day of the Triffids. It makes me imagine everything around me is going to end and a new world will begin.
Two fun reads for you ladies riding are Beatrice Munson a novel about friendship, love, drag queens, cupakes, and planning party. And Happy Beginnings: How To Become My Own Fairy Godmother, the story of starting over at 38 with two kids and realizing you need to rescue yourself.
Both are fun reads and will benefit this Indie author’s life ; )
