News / Hilton's Hand-Me-Downs Head Global Cool's Celebrity Swish
It was literally handbags at dawn Monday morning (23rd February) when a £3,500 dress, worn by Paris Hilton, went up for grabs at Global Cool's hugely anticipated Swishing Party.
Donated by celebrity designer Scott Henshall, who was also on hand to offer fashion tips, Paris's audacious dress was just one of many glamorous garments generously bequeathed to the event. Other big name contributors included Tara Palmer-Tompkinson, Sandi Thom, Lisa Rogers, Gillian Anderson
and Isabel Kristensen.
The party, staged at London's prestigious Cumberland Hotel during London Fashion Week, saw Global Cool competition winners turning up in their droves to swap (or swish) items of pre-loved clothing.
Those in attendance were allowed to briefly peruse the rails before being instructed to take their marks by Henshall, doubling up as the party's compere. Once the go ahead was given, what can only be described as a mad scramble ensued.

"After some browsing time we were let loose to grab our favourite items for a trying on session," recalled
RetroChick blogger Gemma Seager who later won the raffled off Hilton dress, ...and when I say let loose I mean NOTHING comes between a woman and a free pair of Prada heels."
With the ram-raided clothes rails rendered almost bare in seconds, the object of the exercise to highlight how recycling fashion can be both fun and fruitful -- certainly didn't go a miss in the minds of the happy horde of swishers.
Gemma was so inspired by the event, and of course her lucky win, she is now planning to stage her own swishing party: "Having seen how easy and how much fun it is to throw a swish I'm considering throwing one of my own. It was pressure free, with drinks and nibbles thrown in, and best of all it didn't
cost a penny!"
