A gadget that makes toilet paper cool (no, really!)

on in Stuff

There comes a point in any job where you’re staring at the pages of memos in front of you, full of meaningless babble, and you just think — this is only fit for toilet purposes.

In a bizarre turn of events, that’s precisely what Japanese engineering firm Oriental has done. They’ve created White Goat: a machine that turns your waste office paper into toilet roll in just half an hour.

The six-foot tall machine has an input where you can feed in 40 sheets of copier paper and a little water. Thirty minutes later, you get a fresh white roll of TP shooting from the other end.

It does everything: once the paper is fed in, White Goat shreds it, dissolves the fibres in water, thins it out and dries it into rolls. Oriental claim that each roll costs just 7p to make this way, and that regular use can save up to 60 trees a year. You’d better get plenty of use from it — with a £64,000 price tag, you’ll need to be spending lots of time in the executive washroom.
