We know life can be tough. Sometimes all you want to do is pack up your things and take a long vacation. Well, what’s stopping you? We’ve hunted high and low for the crème de la crème of eco-friendly hotels across the globe…

The start of a new year always brings new things, be it a change of attitude, job, or home. Let’s make 2013 the beginning of new holidays. This week we are bringing you the magical Ice Hotel in Sweden…

Ice Hotel
The Ice Hotel in Sweden truly is one of a kind as it changes throughout the year in quite an extraordinary way. One month certain parts of the hotel will be frozen solid and by the net month those walls will have melted away. Ice Hotel never stands still. Nonetheless the location of the hotel is always roughly the same; you’ve just got to check the website for the best time of the year to visit. Surprisingly it does open in the summer, where you can experience sleeping in minus degrees and visit the ice bar. There is also an area available for guests to try their hand at ice sculpting.

Their winter seasons starts in December and ends in April. During this time you can book a stay at the hotel by checking their website to see what accommodation is available. If you don’t like the idea of snoozing in a giant igloo, they also welcome day visitors (between 10am to 6pm). Ice Hotel also hold regular tours in English around the hotel, where you can discover the artists work and the furniture they make.

If you want to stay at the hotel, they do suggest combining one night in the ice hotel with several nights in the warm accommodation for the ultimate experience. They offer you twin, double rooms or even a chalet that fits three to five people. Your one night at the ice hotel will be like no other, and don’t worry you’ll be looked after and there’s no chance of you freezing either!

A thermal sleeping bag will be given to you on top of a bed built by ice blocks, a wooden frame and a mattress topped with warm blankets. In the morning one of the staff team will wake you with a cup of hot lingonberry juice (you’ve probably not heard of it, but it’s delicious!). Thermal underwear is essential to keep you warm at night time and you can even put that impulse buy Christmas onesie to good use again too!

So wrap up warm and check out all the Ice Hotel has to offer now…

GC articles show you one of four ways (the one in bold) to live greener…

/ Be a winner (not a binner) /
/ Turn up the style (not the heat) /
/ Love the trend (not the spend) /
/ Do it in public (not the car/plane) /
